Tommy Tynan, the principal Eb tuba of Black Dyke Band, will begin the new year with a visit to Asia to work and perform alongside the Brass Department at Mahidol University, Bangkok.
His six-day trip will include rehearsals, teaching, and performance activities, culminating in a public concert on 12th January at the university MACM Hall, where he will perform his own arrangement of Ricardo Molla's 'AMAIA — Concerto for Tuba', as well as guest conducting Eric Ball's 'Resurgam'.
His workshops, performance classes, and a low brass ensemble sessions have been supported by Randefalk Musik.
Return
Looking forward to his trip, he told 4BR: "I visited this wonderful country last year and I'm happy to return and to visit to my old friend Dr Boonyarit at Mahidol University in Bangkok.
In response, Dr Boonyarit Kittaweepitak, who is Head of Brass and Dean at Mahidol University, said: "I've known Tommy since we first met in Manchester in 2013, and it' a privilege to finally introduce his world-class musicianship to the brass band and tuba/euphonium community in Thailand."
Milestone
He added: "Having him join the Mahidol Brass Band is not only an exciting milestone for our ensemble, but also an inspiration for our students.
His masterclasses and workshops will offer an exceptional opportunity for young musicians from Mahidol University and from schools and universities across Bangkok to learn directly from his experience."
