The funeral arrangements for Ron Westcott, a hugely respected figure in the Welsh banding movement have been announced following his passing, aged 86, on November 21st.
Having joined Pencoed Band aged 10, he maintained a remarkable connection to the banding movement for the rest of his life — not only inspiring his own children and grandchildren to follow in his footsteps, but countless other youngsters too.
Passionate
He was a passionate supporter of all the bands he was connected to directly or indirectly, as well as the wider Welsh banding movement, and took great pride in Welsh success at every level. He was a much sought after figure at contests and banding events, admired for his insight and understanding of the teaching of young players.
Funeral
The funeral will be held on Thursday 18th December at 2.00pm at Cardiff and Glamorgan Memorial Park and Crematorium, Port Road East, Barry, Vale of Glamorgan (CF62 9PX)
The family have requested that there are no flowers but that donations and retiring collection proceeds go to directly supporting Youth Brass Banding in South Wales which was one of his great passions. The thoughts of the winder banding movement are with his wife Jen and children Robert, Natalie and their families.
Celebration
A small ensemble will perform at the service. Friends and colleagues are warmly invited by the family to join them in a celebration of a fine life at Rhoose Social Club following the formal service.
