Warm Warwick welcome as youth enjoy RAF tuba visit

Player on the Warwickshire & Coventry Youth Band enjoyed plenty of great music making and insight into the life of a RAF musician.

The Warwickshire & Coventry Youth Band recently welcomed RAF Central Band tuba player Morgan Hart as guest soloist on its Autumn Course under MD Tom Stoneman.

Music and insight

The day-long event offered young brass and percussion musicians the chance to rehearse and perform a diverse selection of demanding repertoire. Highlights included Andrea Price's 'I Daedalus', Fredrick Schjelderup's 'Felicitous', and a selection from 'The Greatest Showman'.

Morgan is a recent graduate of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and a former member of Shirley Band. He showcased his talents with a 30-minute recital to members and also took part in special question and session explaining his musical journey and his experiences of performing in the RAF.

Collaborative initiative

Warwickshire & Coventry Youth Brass Band is a collaborative initiative between Warwickshire Music Hub, Heart of England Music, Brass Bands England and several brass bands in the Midlands region.

The ensemble meets several times a year and is open to young brass and percussion players from Warwickshire and the surrounding areas, who have achieved or are working towards Grade 4 standard.

Enjoyed

Band Chairperson, Jane Richardson, told 4BR: "The youngsters had a fantastic day at King's High School in Warwick, and the challenging and enjoyable repertoire was enjoyed by all. More importantly, everyone said they gained a sense of achievement as a positive outcome of the day.

We would like to thank former Fine Arts Brass trombonist, Simon Hogg, who has led the band for every course since its inception. Having been given this solid foundation by Simon, the band looks forward to a viable and successful future."
