4BR has been informed of the death of the highly respected Flookburgh Band solo trombone player Mitchell Rowlandson, aged 71.
The North of England band took to the stage at the recent Cheltenham National Championships without him in the ranks for the first time since 1968 following his death on 4th September.
True gentleman
A spokesperson told 4BR: "'Mitch' as he was called by those who knew him, was a fine trombone player and bandmaster at Flookburgh and conductor of Ulverston Town Band for 19 years, as well as generously sharing his talents and time with other bands in the area."
They added: "A true gentleman and great friend to many in the brass band world, he leaves a huge void in Flookburgh bandroom and the hearts of many musicians in South Cumbria.
His legacy will live on through his children and grandchildren who are members of Flookburgh Band."
