The Rainford Band has announced the appointment of Adam DJ Taylor as their new Musical Director.

The conductor, composer, arranger and educator has wide ranging musical experience working as a professional trombonist as well as gaining an extensive conducting portfolio, directing the likes of Allerton Brass and Freckleton Band.

Awards

His original works and arrangements published by Cantatio have been played by bands at all levels. He won the 2012 Best New Composition or Arrangement at the Brass in Concert Championships, and the Best New Arrangement at the inaugural Red Admiral Entertainment Contest 2024.

He is also an advocate for diversity and inclusion in brass banding and supports initiatives that widen participation.

Thrilled

He told 4BR: I'm thrilled to be taking on the role as the band heads towards an exciting milestone and its 50th anniversary in 2026.

This offers a real opportunity to push forward musically, build on the band's strengths, and deliver performances we can be proud of, both on concert and contest stages.

I'm looking forward to getting started and working hard with the players in a band rooted in its community."

Positivity

In response a spokesperson for the North West Championship Section and Senior Cup band stated: "We are looking forward to commencing the next chapter of our journey with Adam at the helm.

We think that his positivity and forward thinking attitude fit perfectly with our philosophy of innovation and community."
