A richly deserved presentation marking 50 years of outstanding service to the Northop Silver Band has been made to Eb bass player John Williams.

Appropriately, the landmark was celebrated at a band concert held in the town, where band members past and present as well as a packed audience took the opportunity to show their appreciation of the dedicated bandsman.

More years to come

A spokesperson told 4BR: "It was a wonderful occasion and although John enjoyed the presentation we are even more delighted that he will continue to add many more years of services to us.

He was also delighted that tuba stars Gavin Wyn Saynor and Chris Hardy were on hand to add an extra bit of tuba stardust too."

Principal thanks

The concert also saw the final performance of principal cornet Nerys Davies, with the band also taking the opportunity to thank her for her outstanding playing and contribution over the last decade.
