Belgians to go crazy for National titles

Thierry Deleruyelle's Parisian homage leads works by Ingebjorg Vilhelmsen, Andrew Wainwright and Stan Nieuwenhuis to test bands at the Belgian National Championships later this year.

The contest takes place at Cultuurcentrum Zwaneberg, Cultuurplein

The set-works to be used at the 2025 Belgian National Championships have been announced.

The 45th event takes place for the ninth time at the Cultuurcentrum Zwaneberg, Cultuurplein in Heist-op-den-Berg on the weekend of the 29th and 30th November. The defending Championship Division champion is Brass Band Willebroek.

The jury team will comprise Jane Westervik, Jan de Haan and Christopher Houlding. Bands will perform their set-work as well an own-choice test-piece.

Crazy Twenties

The Championship Section bands will perform 'Crazy Twenties' by Thierry Deleruyelle which forms part of his ongoing series of works that mark each decade of the 20th century.

It is inspired by the city of Paris in 1920, and the sense of excitement and heady optimism, where art and culture were about to explode in remarkable artistic intensity — from Ravel and Stravinsky to Coco Chanel and Josephine Baker.

Embracing Duality

The First Section contenders will tackle Ingebjørg Vilhelmsen's recent European Championship Challenge Section work, 'Embracing Duality' inspired by Hel, the mythical half alive, have dead gatekeep to the underworld.

Finlandia and Buoy

Andrew Wainwright's 'Metamorphosis on Finlandia' based on the famous Sibelius tone poem will face the bands in the Second Section, whilst the Third Section rivals will play 'A Buoy', written in 2019 by Belgian composer Stan Nieuwenhuis — a work that represents reflections on hope, safety, positivity and optimism.
