Newport and Hackett reach last chord

A partnership that thrived over 13 years comes to an end at Newport Borough

Newport
The band won the Welsh Area title in 2017

Newport Borough Band has announced that the musical partnership with MD Robin Hackett has come to an amicable end after what they said was "a wonderful 13 years".

Thrived

On announcing the news they stated that they had "thrived" under his "work ethic, skill and enthusiasm for all things banding."

They added: "We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all you have done during your time at Newport Borough Brass Band and know that this was a difficult decision for you. We wish you and your family nothing but health and happiness and know you won't be a stranger.

Thankfully it's not goodbye just yet, but rest assured there will be a proper thank you before you leave us!"

Title success

During his tenure the band enjoyed considerable success, including a Third Section Welsh Area title win in 2017, followed by the Second Section in 2019.

The band also qualified for the National Finals in Cheltenham in 2016 and 2023 and claimed National Eisteddfod of Wales titles in 2018 and 2024 and numerous local Welsh League contests wins.
