The International Staff Band of the Salvation Army will provide a pre-National Championship concert entertainment at the Royal College of Music (Friday 10th October — 7.30pm) with a special celebration of the music of composer Edward Gregson.
Albert Hall eve
His major composition, 'Symphony in two movements' is being used as the set-work for the National Championship of Great Britain at the Royal Albert Hall, the following day.
The International Staff Band will be conducted by Dr Stephen Cobb and will feature soloist Ian Bousfield. The evening will be presented by Paul Hindmarsh.
Delighted
Speaking about the event, Edward Gregson told 4BR: "I'm delighted that being given this honour to mark my 80th birthday by the ISB and Stephen Cobb.
The title 'Gregson's Choice' may sound a little enigmatic, but the concert will reflect my early life as a composer in the Salvation Army as well as highlighting the compositional influences I experienced at that time."
World class
He added: "This will include music by Heaton, Leidzen, and Steadman-Allen, to name but three, together with my own music, and all with the added bonus of a quite incredible world class soloist in Ian Bousfield too. It promises to be a highly enjoyable and stimulating evening — not just for me!"
