Former St Keverne Band cornet player Kate Moore, Principal Trumpet of the BBC Concert Orchestra has been presented with the prestigious Pioneer Award by the International Women's Brass Conference.
First British recipient
She is the first British recipient of the honour which was initiated in 1993.
In offering their congratulations the BBC Concert Orchestra stated that the award recognises women who, "have been pioneers in the top levels of brass performance, breaking down barriers and living their lives effecting change for those who have followed."
Inspired by Eric Taylor, the local bandmaster in St Keverne, Kate studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under Maurice Murphy, Crispian Steele-Perkins and Paul Cosh.
Respected
Appointed Principal Cornet with the BBC Concert Orchestra in 1987 and Section Principal Trumpet in 2000 she has become one of the most respected trumpet players in UK professional orchestras, as a soloist and freelance performer.
Her CV includes numerous television and film scores such as Blue Planet, Frozen Planet, Planet Earth, Inception, Skyfall and Spectre, as well as working with artists such as Sting, Elbow, Florence and the Machine and Gregory Porter.
