Thundersley Brass, fresh from qualifying for the First Section National Final at Stevenage on the weekend, took to a very different stage on Wednesday evening.
Surround Sound Playlist
The band performed at Chelmsford Cathedral as part of an inventive 'Surround Sound Playlist' alongside the acclaimed Britten Sinfonia, Tenebrae Choir, local choirs and musicians Amy Dickson (sax) and Jospeh Tawados (oud)
The project combines aural and visual elements to permeate the acoustic and architecture of a trio of magnificent buildings — the performance at Chelmsford replicated at Ely Cathedral (Friday 21st March) and Peterborough Cathedral (Saturday 22nd March).
Music
The aim of the programmes which includes music by Copland, Handel and Prokofiev to Parry, Eriks Esenvalds, Caroline Shaw and also features Soham Comrades Band (Ely) and Stamford Brass (Peterborough) is to use lighting and music together "to capture the mood as a seamless musical sequence fills the magical space from all directions..."
