A new partnership initiative between Derwent Brass, Jack Capstaff and the Brass Band Conductors Association has been launched.

Derwent Brass
The initiative will be led by conductor Jack Capstaff

The Brass Band Conductors Association (BBCA) has partnered with Derwent Brass for a special Conducting Workshop.

The event (10.00am-6.00pm) will take place on 12th April at Landau Forte Theatre, part of Landau Forte College in Derby (DE1 2LF) and aims to provide an ideal opportunity for conductors (both BBCA members and external) to study various conducting elements by working with a Championship Section band.

Lead

The event will be guided by Derwent's Music Director and BBCA project officer Jack Capstaff, with support from other BBCA Executive members:

Elements to be covered include:
Fundamental Technique (2 hours)
Conducting a Brass 10 piece+kit
Providing conducting feedback on technique, beat patterns and gesture
Rehearsal (2 hours)
Full band — 10 minutes per active participant
Giving the opportunity for delegates to rehearse their piece for the concert as well as gain feedback from tutor/band on communication and rehearsal practice
Concert Performance (2 hours)
Conducting Derwent Brass in concert

Each participant conducts their own concert piece in the concert, with other repertoire performed by Jack Capstaff and Derwent Brass.
