Haydn's 'Horn Concerto No.1 in D major' was composed in 1762, when he was new to the Esterhazy court.
It is a virtuosic concerto that showcases the beauty and range of the horn and has been sympathetically arranged by Duncan Wilson for tenor horn with brass band accompaniment.
It is a virtuoso movement with the band providing accompaniment and contrast, and the two interacting in a lively dialogue — building to an exciting climax.
