The South West Brass Band Association (SWBBA) recently held its 25th Mid-Winter Brass Band Workshop at West Buckland School near Barnstaple in North Devon.
Delegates
Delegates from bands across the region were treated to another memorable weekend of music and tuition led by the respected trio of Adam Bokaris, Christopher and Stephanie Binns.
A massed band was directed by Chris with break out groups ensured that all the players were given focussed attention to their playing needs.
Presentation
The annual presentation of the Mervyn Sweet Memorial Shield for the best under 18 musician was awarded to Freya Yelland of St. Austell Town Band. It was presented by David Boorer of Co-op Funeral Services, one of the event sponsors.
The two days of music making closed with a free concert featuring repertoire that was rehearsed, including 'Rule Britannia' with Adam as soloist, 'Dimitri' with Stephanie as the lead and the duet of the 'Love Theme' from Romeo and Juliet featuring Adam and Steph.
The players were magnificently fed throughout the weekend by a team of volunteers led by Jenny Edwards with plans already underway for next year.
The next event on the SWBBA calendar is 'Entertaining Brass' at Upton Vale Church in Torquay on Saturday July 12th.
