The death has been announced of Edmond John, founding player and hugely respected member of Burry Port Town Band.
Pivotal role
A spokesperson told 4BR: "Edmond played a pivotal role in reforming the Burry Port Town Band in 1972. At a time when the band had ceased to exist since the beginning of the Second World War, his determination and vision were instrumental in its revival.
Alongside his friends and colleagues, he worked tirelessly to re-establish the band as a cornerstone of the local community, ensuring that the rich tradition of brass banding in Burry Port could restart and flourish."
Passion and dedication
They added: "Without Edmond's passion and dedication, there simply wouldn't be a brass band in Burry Port today. His efforts not only brought music back to the town but also created a legacy that has inspired generations of musicians and supporters.
The band has since grown to become one of the most respected ensembles in West Wales, and much of this success can be traced back to the foundations laid by Edmond and his peers.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to Edmond's family in particular his two sons Daren and Andrew who between them have also given numerous years of service as players and committee members of the Band."
Funeral
4BR was informed that the funeral will take place on Wednesday, 12th February at Llanelli Crematorium.
