A new trophy in memory of player Nicola Hand will be presented to the Best Instrumentalist in the Fourth Section at this year's Midlands Regional Championships.

A new award will be presented at this year's Midlands Regional Championships.

The Nicola Hand Shield will be presented to 'The Best Instrumentalist' in the Fourth Section where Nicky spent many happy years competing with Whitwell Band as their flugel horn player.

Speaking to 4BR, her brother, Gareth Hand said: "As a family we thought that commissioning the award would be a great way to celebrate and remember Nicky's musical achievements.

We hope that all future recipients of the award will be motivated and inspired to make their musical mark with the same enjoyment as she did."
