Chris Yule was named both Player, and Players Player of the Year

Whitburn Band recently presented its annual awards.

Chris Yule was named '2024 Player of the Year' and 'Players' Player of the Year' after leading his section throughout with success, including picking up the 'Best Percussion' prize with his team at the Scottish Championships for a third consecutive year.

It was the second occasion he has been named 'Player of the Year', and the first time he has won the 'Players' Player' accolade. He becomes only the fourth person in Whitburn's history to have won both awards in the same year.

Awards

Leighton Griffin was named 'Bandsperson of the Year' for his overall contribution, including his performances in the euphonium section, whilst a special presentation was made to Chris Shanks to mark his decade of service to the band.

The two-time winner of the 'Best Euphonium' award at the Scottish Championships, Chris took on a new role as Whitburn's Associate Conductor in 2024.

Ensemble presentations

Whitburn's development bands also awarded their players for their contributions in 2024, with Whitburn Youth Band players Corey Glen, Carter Burchill, Roxy Clark, and Whitburn Heartlands players Ann Kelly and Barbara Poynter gaining well deserved accolades.
