150th anniversary ambitions drive NASUWT Riverside

NASUWT Riverside Band looks forward as well as back as they take first musical steps of 2025.

NASUWT Riverside
Professional Conductor Prof Nicholas Childs was on hand to make the presentation

NASUWT Riverside Band has returned to rehearsal as the organisation looks forward to a busy 150th anniversary year.

They also welcomed professional conductor Prof Nicholas Childs to work on the Area set-test, as the band looks to reclaim the North of England title last won in 2023, as well as returning to the British Open for the first time since 2022.

Looking back

First of all though they looked back on the past year, one which saw them qualify for the Royal Albert Hall for a fourth consecutive time and come an encouraging fifth place at the Grand Shield in Blackpool.

Prof Childs took the opportunity to thank the band for their fine performances and outstanding commitment, as well as the individual contributions of Band Manager Tony Thompson and 'Outstanding Solo Award' winner, Michael Duncan.

Wonderful surprise

In response, Michael said: "It was a wonderful surprise for me, but also a great way for us all to look forward to what promises to a fantastic year of events and performances."
