Shirland's Santa cheer

Five talented young players enjoyed finding a National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain invitation in their Xmas stockings this year.

Shirland Welfare Band celebrated excellent festive news this year as it was confirmed that five talented young players had been accepted into the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.

Youth and Children

Joss Trow and Robbie Davenport will join returning members Leonie Tissie and Millie Davenport for the Easter course in Berkshire.

In addition, following hard on their heels will be Emily Toyn, who will be returning to play with the National Childrens' Brass Band of Great Britain in the summer.

All five youngsters have played an active part in Shirland's successes over the last year, with highlights including a victory at the Red Admiral Entertainment Contest and a number of march and hymn tune contest triumphs.

Great opportunities

A spokesperson told 4BR: "All five started their playing journey at Shirland Training Band, and the organisation continues to offer opportunities for new starters both young and old to come along on a Thursday evening and discover the joys of brass banding.

With several additional National Youth & Children's Band alumni among the ranks, the prospects for the upcoming year are looking positive for Shirland."
