The debut CD release from the Slide Action trombone quartet is the December Recording of the Month in the BBC Music Magazine.

Slide Action
The five star review came as the release was named Recording of the Month

'RE:BUILD', the debut CD release from the Slide Action trombone quartet has gained the first of what is likely to be numerous critical accolades by being named 'Recording of the Month' in the December issue of the influential BBC Music Magazine.

Sold out

The release which has already sold out on its first print run, gained a five star review from respected music journalist Anne Templer.

Talking about the release in an accompanying interview feature, member Josh Cirtina said that the group wanted to "push the boundaries but also the capabilities of the sound you can make in the instrument".

What a blast

Described as "an exhilarating and thrilling ride. What a blast", the release on the NMC label features music from some of the most exciting new compositional talent for the medium exploring what Templer says is "a relatively untapped area for contemporary composers".

Works come from the pen of the likes of Emily Hall, Laura Judd, Matthew Locke and Joanna Ward as well as the members themselves.

Ingenious

The highlight was for the critic comes with Alex Paxton's 'Hairy Pony Estampie', described as "ingenious… a rollercoaster ride of sounds"- although Josh tries to sum it up by saying that their parts were marked with "needs to sound more like gnomes in a tumble dryer".
