New year progress to be finally made on Todmorden Bandstand

The Grade 2 listed structure could finally be revitalised after local council gains ownership

  The original structure was built in 1914

The long running campaign to save one of Yorkshire's most architecturally significant bandstands has taken another step in the right direction.

It was was announced that after obtaining third party permissions, Todmorden Town Council now has gained ownership in order to proceed with further development.

Grade 2 listing

Originally constructed in 1914, over the past six or so years the future of the Grade 2 listed building has been debated and assessed without resolution, with hopes of it becoming part of a £12.5 million 'Stronger Towns Fund' bid failing to fully materialise.

However, it has been announced that planning permission has now been agreed alongside its adjoining Bowling Pavillion with Invitation to Tender being issued for both projects.

The ambition is for works to be completed by October 20254BR

Funds

It was reported that based on estimated costs, and following receipt of grants from the Community Ownership Fund and National Lottery Heritage Fund, there are now enough funds held to enable us to make this move,

The ambition is for works to be completed by October 2025, although there is still caution amongst campaigners there is still a great more that is required before the bandstand is restored to its former glory.

Putney and Wimbledon Brass Band

January 8 • Following our promotion to the 2nd section we are looking for a percussionist to do a bit of bing bonging on the timps for the regionals in March. We are a lovely band - everyone says so - so please get in touch. Rehearsals Weds from 1930 in Putney.
