New prize winning works to be premiered by Elland

A trio of exciting new works have won the recent Elland Silver Band Composer Competition.

  The works will be given their world premieres next year

A trio of exciting new works will be performed by Elland Silver Band and Elland Silver Youth Band following the announcement of the results of its inaugural Composer Competition.

The band received several high-quality inclusive entries from both experienced and first-time composers.

Appraised

The submissions were anonymously appraised to avoid any conflict of interest by the respected composers Dr Philip Wilby and Dr Liz Lane, with the duo reaching unanimous decisions for each category.

Elland Silver Community Band category was won by 'Sunshine, Ice Cream and British Weather' by Sheila Allen, whilst the Youth category was won by Awakenings' by Naomi Hill, with a second prize going to '30 Years Later' by Jenny Thomas

The senior Elland Silver Band category was won by 'Fanfare, Solemn & Celebration' by Adrian Woodhead.

The band received several high-quality inclusive entries from both experienced and first-time composers4BR

Premieres

The winning compositions will be performed by in a special Composer Concert on Sunday 13th April at, Brooksbank School, Elland.

Each piece will also be published by Kirklees Music, with recordings being produced by Elland Silver Band during 2025.
