Besses Boy's Band is celebrating after it was confirmed that they are to be presented with a King's Award for Voluntary Service.
Created in 2002, the award which is the equivalent of the MBE for voluntary and charitable organisations, recognises the outstanding voluntary commitment of all the players, official and volunteers who have served and supported the organisation since its formation in 1943.
Proud reputation
Since that time the band has gained huge success and respect for its contesting and non-contesting activities. They have won numerous titles and have performed nationally and internationally.
They have also provided a welcoming, inclusive environment for players and has a proud reputation for encouraging and developing children to learn to play brass band instruments.
Representatives of the band will receive the crystal award certificate from Diane Hawkins, Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester next year. In addition, two volunteers will be invited to attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace along with other recipients of this year's Award.
