Valley Brass, the First Section band from St. Helens in Merseyside, has been awarded The King's Award for Voluntary Service for 2024.
They are just one of 281 local charities, social enterprises and voluntary groups to receive the prestigious award this year. It is the highest award a local voluntary group can receive in the UK and is regarded as the equivalent to an MBE.
Hugely respected
The band has gained a hugely respected reputation for it competitive and non-competitive activities, locally, regionally and nationally with its ethos of encouraging and supporting music making across all ages, backgrounds and abilities, without financial constraint.
The organisation comprises a senior band, training band and learner group all offering welcoming spaces for musicians to learn, grow, and perform together.
Thrilled
Speaking about the award, the band stated: "We are thrilled that our group's dedication to music and community has been recognised at this level.
This award honours the passion and commitment of our volunteers who make Valley Brass a welcoming and inspiring place for musicians of all ages."
Representatives of Valley Brass will receive the crystal award and certificate from Mark Blundell, Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside. In addition, two volunteers from Valley Brass will attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace in 2025, along with other recipients.
