After 58 years loyal service John Parkin has taken the difficult decision to retire from Cockerton Prize Silver Band in the North of England.
Commitment
A spokesperson told 4BR: "John's level of commitment has been unparalleled and even in retirement he will still be around to pick the draws, answer band room alarm calls and do what he can in the background.
He has bene part of the band for over a third of its existence and has remained a stalwart and a legendary figure."
Thanks
The band also took the opportunity to thank John's wife's Pat's for her unwavering support, whilst he bowed out with them taking the 'Most Entertaining Band' prize at the recent Red Admiral Entertainment Contest.
The spokesperson added: "Cockerton Band isn't going to be the same without John there every Sunday and Wednesday and he will be very much missed. We wish John a long and happy retirement and look forward to seeing him around. His level of commitment shines as an example to the rest of us."
