Flowers headline Reading double header

There is the chance to hear Hatherleigh and Flowers in concert action in Reading this weekend, with extra attractions as part of the British Bandsman Concert series.

  The weekend features Hatherleigh and Flowers plus a Denis Wick workshop

The British Bandsman Concert Series continues this Saturday (28th September) with Hatherleigh Silver Band and Flowers both in concert at Reading Town Hall.

Not only does it give the opportunity to hear both bands in action, but there is also the chance to enjoy a special half hour Denis Wick product workshop with Flowers stars Luke Barker, Lauren Chinn and Matt Rowe (4.15pm).

Hatherleigh and Flowers

The Hatherleigh Band will kick off at 2.00pm with an easy listening concert of classic brass band music.

Flowers, fresh from their runner-up finish at the British Open and qualification to represent England at the 2026 European Championships, will take to the stage under MD Paul Holland at 7.00pm.

Their programme which will also give an early chance to hear 'Harrison's Dream' the test-piece they will perform in their bid to claim the National title in London on 5th October.

Tickets for the concerts this weekend can be combined with ticket purchases for future concerts featuring Friary, Foden's and Black Dyke.

Growing popularity

Promoter Rob Tompkins told 4BR: "This is the third date in the series which is growing in popularity. Not only do you get the chance this weekend to enjoy two great bands but you can also get a discount by purchasing tickets for future concerts or when 10 or more tickets are purchased.

We have also invited local youth music organisations to attend the concerts for free to help inspire the next generation of performers."

Olney Brass

September 26 • Required: Solo Euphonium and Solo Horn. We are a championship section band, newly promoted in 2025. We rehearse in Loughton Milton Keynes on a Tuesday night at 7.45pm until 10pm, with extra rehearsals prior to contests or formal concerts.
