East Sussex based Uckfield Concert Brass is preparing to give the world premiere of a new by young composer Emily Hazrati.
Emily has already been described as "a rising star" by BBC Radio 3 in featuring her works, so there is likely to be a great deal of interest in her first collaboration with a brass band, entitled, 'Dawn, Wisdom'
The work will form the centrepiece of at a free concert in Uckfield on Saturday 26th October (7.30pm) at the Holy Cross Church (TN22 1BP).
Dawn, Wisdom
'Dawn, Wisdom' is inspired by the Sussex landscape, and follows a year of collaboration between the band and Emily as part of the 'Adopt a Composer' scheme organised by the musicians' organisation, Making Music.
The first movement imagines a mysterious dawn rising over the river Uck, on a calm and hazy morning in autumn, followed by a central section inspired by flashes of morning sunlight catching the surrounding hills of the South Downs and the Weald. The final movement is lively and energetic as it looks forward to the start of a new day.

Inspired
Speaking about her work, Emily told 4BR: "The idea comes from the name Uckfield, possibly meaning 'open land of a man called Ucca' which is also a form of the Anglo Saxon name 'Uhtraed', meaning 'dawn-wisdom'.
Making this discovery I was absorbed by an image of the sun rising in a distant past, and before I knew it, I had composed a fragment of music inspired by this vision."
The audience can also look forward to other atmospheric work son the concert programme such as 'Horizons' by Paul Lovatt-Cooper, as well as the dislocations of Derek Bourgeois's sprightly 'Serenade'.
