Long playing slice of Evans history helps future NYBBS youngsters

Sales from an 1986 LP recording of Kirkintilloch Band directed by the late great Richard Evans will help future generations of young players attend the annual NYBBS Summer Course.

Peter Fraser
Peter Fraser MBE was on hand to both sell and explain about the LP

There was a long playing slice of Scottish banding history available to buy at the recent National Youth Band of Scotland 'Brass at the Park' event in Perthshire.

All three NYBBS ensemble bands performed music in celebration of the late Richard Evans, whilst welcome visitors from Rushen Silver from the Isle of Man and as far as Japan also paid their musical tributes.

Wonderful gesture

However, a wonderful gesture also came from the Kirkintilloch Band who sold rare copies of the vinyl LP made under his baton way back in 1986 to add to the new Richard Evans Bursary Fund set up by SBBA to help support future NYBBS Summer Course students.

The recording was made at the Henry Wood Hall in Glasgow in November 1986 and was produced and engineered by Peter Fraser MBE, who in addition to doping a fantastic job selling the LPs had the task of explaining to younger members of the bands just what an LP was!
