4BR has been informed of the death of the former Wingates Temperance and Leyland Bb tuba player Tom Dockerty, who played with the bands from 1962 until his retirement in 1992.
He passed away on Friday 7th June, aged 92. He is survived by his wife Veronica, children Martin, Paul and Joanne and eight beloved grandchildren.
Fondly remembered
In a short statement, the family said: "It's with heavy hearts that we inform everyone. He died peacefully surrounded by his loved ones at home.
Tom was a character who touched the lives of all who knew him. He will be fondly remembered for his humour and practical jokes and will be sorely missed."
Title winner
Tom was a member of Wingates Temperance from 1962 until 1979, playing on their National Championship victory in 1971 under Denis Smith, and the British Open success in 1975 under Richard Evans.
He also enjoyed a highly successful period at Leyland in winning the Grand Shield as well as the Second Section National and Pontins titles on their rise to prominence — including their historic trip to Japan.
In total he played at Tom played at 18 National Finals and 22 British Opens.
Funeral details
The funeral will be on Friday 5th July at St Joseph's RC Church, Lytham, St Annes (FY8 4EP) at 11.30am.
A band will play at the service. Should any of Tom's former band colleagues wish to play, all are welcome. Please meet at the church at 11.00am.
