The vastly experienced Chris Davies OBE takes over the helm at Wantage Concert Brass

Wantage Concert Brass has announced the appointment of former Principal Director of Music of the Royal Marines, Dr Chris Davis OBE, as their new Musical Director.

Freelance

Since retiring from the Royal Marines, after an illustrious 35 years of service, he has enjoyed a busy freelance career as a conductor, clinician and adjudicator.

Having gained a Doctorate in Musical Arts from the University of Salford he has enjoyed an associate conducting link to Brighouse & Rastrick Band as other bands, whilst he has been in demand as an adjudicator.

Right time

Now he returns to the First Section band, stating: "It is something that has come at the right time — a chance to give something back, to enjoy music making with like-minded people who have high standards of musical excellence.

The Wantage organisation is a breath of fresh air — an inclusive musical organisation with a wonderful positive twist, with over 200 musicians and 9 bands using the premises during the week.

I'm delighted to be part of the organisation and look forward to making my mark."
