The death has been announced of David Tinker, the much respected former player and administrator of Hepworth Band.
He passed away peacefully on Wednesday 22nd May Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. He was 77.
Hepworth
For over 50 years he was the most loyal and dedicated member of the Hepworth Band organisation, enjoying triumphs and tribulations with insight and good humour.
A keen football and cricket fan, he also had an in-depth knowledge of a huge variety of subjects away from the banding world — although it was brass bands and Hepworth in particular that was his first love.
His delight at seeing them win the Scottish Open and Grand Shield (twice) to return to the British Open, as well as qualify for the National Finals at the Royal Albert Hall was always based on knowing just how hard they had to work to achieve it.
Good band
For over a decade he contributed to 4Barsrest — his trademark remark of "played a good band" a hard won and spot on analysis of many a winning performance.
A man who loved his family, he leaves a beloved wife Margaret with whom he celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in April this year, as well as children Matthew and Gillian and grandchildren Olive, Winnie and Jack.
Funeral
His funeral will be held at Huddersfield Crematorium Wednesday 19th June (12.30pm). The family has asked for those attending to wear something colourful if they wish.
