The final brace of concert performances from the 2024 RNCM International Brass Band Festival have now been released on the Wobplay.com media platform.
Cory
They come from Cory Band conducted by Philip Harper and Brighouse & Rastrick directed by James Gourlay and feature soloists Glyn Williams and Ellena Newton.
Cory, who are celebrating their 140th anniversary this year, very appropriately rounded off their programme with 'The Year of the Dragon', the iconic test-piece written for their centenary celebrations by Philip Sparke.
In addition, there is the world premiere of 'Soaring the Heights' by Christopher Bond, as well as 'Dance 1' (Macedonian) by Mihailo Trandafilovski in addition to Dorothy Gates' 'The Living God' and 'Other Lives' by Oliver Waespi. Glyn Williams performs Philip Harper's own 'Euphonium Concerto'.
Brighouse & Rastrick
Brighouse & Rastrick also performed a work that that celebrated its centenary in 2024 — 'On the Cornish Coast' by Henry Geehl, written for the 1924 National Championships.
Jim Self's virtuosic 'Tour De Force' is contrasted by Thea Musgrave's 'Variations', Philip Wilby's 'Wondrous Cross' and Dorothy Gates' 'Invisible Fire', whilst RNCM alum Ellena Newton performs Bert Appermont's 'Colors'
The band closed with George Lloyd's 'Diversions on a Bass Theme' on which James Gourlay won the British Open in 1998.
