Baton and player boost for Fishburn ahead of new season

The North of England band welcomes a new Resident Conductor and new players to the ranks as they look towards the Areas and Spring Festival.

  The band is looking to return to the Albert Hall for the first time since 2018.

The Fishburn Band has announced several changes to their personnel as they look forward to a busy 2024 season.

New Resident

With the band looking to secure a first North of England Area contest victory since 2001, as well as qualification to the Albert Hall for the first time 2018, they have has announced the appointment of David Conway as their new Resident Conductor.

He will work alongside Professional Conductor Duncan Beckley for concerts and contests — starting with the Area event in Durham in March.

Players

Meanwhile, Lyndon Taylor and Joe Armstrong have joined the cornet section, with Neil Simpson coming in on euphonium. Jake Haygarth adds to the horn team, as do Jeff Bryant and Bob Calvert to the trombone section.

A band spokesperson told 4BR: "These are exciting times for the band as we add further player strength to the ensemble and welcome David Conway as our new Resident Conductor.

The Area contest will soon by with us, as will the Grand Shield as we look to build on the highly encouraging results of 2023."
