David Calvert, the veteran cornet player and proud President of Langholm Town Band in Scotland has been awarded an MBE in the New Year's Honours by King Charles III.
Service
The richly deserved award recognised his remarkable 71 years of voluntary service to the band and wider community.
Davis has been a dedicated and committed supporter of Langholm Town Band for most of his life, having joined their ranks at the age of 12.
His first public engagement was as part of the celebrations of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Amazingly he has also played for astronaut Neil Armstrong, when the first man on the moon visited Scotland to become a Freeman of the Burgh of Langholm.
Selfless
He was also the major driving force behind the creation of a junior band to encourage youngsters to learn to play brass instruments and has provided selfless service to an organisation that has led the congratulations on his accolade.
