WFEL Fairey trio take festive accolades

There were a trio of well deserved Christmas presents for WFEL Fairey Band's award winners this year.

Awards
Peter McDonough, James Atkins and James Parkinson with their awards

The WFEL Fairey Band round off their concert year just before Christmas with their world premiere of Shaun the Sheep: The Flight Before Christmas which took place at a packed RNCM in Manchester.

The band also undertook their annual concert in Tyldesley where they also presented their annual awards.

Awards

The 'Players' Player of the Year' award went to solo euphonium Peter McDonough, whilst the 'Bandsperson of the Year' accolade was presented to James Parkinson.

A spokesperson said: "Pete's performances over the last two years have been consistently outstanding, winning the 'Best Euphonium' award at the 2022 British Open and reaching the semi-finals of the European Soloist Competition this year.

James continues to be instrumental behind the scenes in driving the creative output of the band and the players nominated him for the second year in a row."

The 'Musical Director's Award' chosen by MD Phil Chalk to the member who has contributed significantly to the band in 2023 went to James Atkins for successfully stepping up to the solo cornet position over the last few months.
