The ever musically inquisitive Regent Brass will once again reach out to new brass band audiences with their latest musical concert link.
They will appear alongside Camden Youth Brass Band at Regent Hall on Oxford Street in London on Friday 1st December (7.00pm) to premiere a new work for brass band by Robin Fielder, made possible through the Making Music 'Adopt a Creator' scheme.
Free event
The concert will be free to attend and is open to all, with a recording being made of the work for broadcast on BBC Radio 3 next year.
'Castle in the Sky' explores the metaphor of the castle as a base or core for the self, defying gravity and float in order to remain flexible and open as we grow through life.
New voice
Robin is an exciting new compositional voice for the medium — born in Germany but having studied in the UK studying under Mark Oldfield, Alan Mills, Jonathan Rathbone and James Francis Brown.
The prize-winning composer has enjoyed premieres with the London Firebird Orchestra and the renowned Allegri String Quartet as well as being composer residency with the London Bel Canto Festival.
Described as "a young composer to watch" by The Guardian's music critic Stephen Pritchard, Robin is one of the most sought after young composers in the UK.
Another premiere
The concert will also feature short programmes by both bands which explore a range of styles, from traditional folk, popular styles, musical and film soundtracks and works from the classical tradition.
There will also be the premiere of another exciting new work for brass band by the Regent's young composer in residence Franklin Tobenna Onyeso, titled 'Eris and Harmonia'.
