Huddersfield & Ripponden Brass has announced that the vastly experienced John Roberts will lead the Yorkshire Champion at the Third Section National Final in Cheltenham in September.
He steps into the role to cover the temporary paternity leave that will come as MD, Adam Bell looks forward to the arrival of his family's first child.
John has led bands from Fourth to Championships Section over his successful conducting career, coming tantalisingly close on three so far to claiming a National title with runner-up finishes with Rothwell Temperance (1995 Third Section), Skelmanthorpe (2008 First Section) and Lockwood (2014 Second Section).
Outstanding
Not surprisingly the band is hoping that will change this year, as spokesperson Julie Atkinson said: "John is known for his outstanding work and we are privileged to be working with such a highly respected conductor for such an important contest.
We would also like to thank Sam Fisher for his support in leading rehearsals in July."
Fortunate
Julie added: "Adam's presence will be missed but we wholeheartedly support his decision to take time away to focus on his new family.
We are incredibly fortunate to have secured the help of John and Sam and look forward to working with them over the summer whilst awaiting the safe arrival of 'Baby Bell'."
