Prof Nicholas Childs has spoken of his delight that it has been his percussion section that has gained a new set of 'Pondasher' fans following the Queensbury band's appearance at the recent European Championship in Malmo.
In particular it was the performance of Oliver Waespi's 'Antiphones' that topped the own-choice discipline and which featured all of his stable of soloists — brass and percussion — that has created a new admiration for his team.
Fantastic percussion team
He said: "We have always enjoyed a fantastic percussion section at Black Dyke, but we have been fortunate that over the past few years we have been able to perform major works that make their contribution as a team and as solo performers every bit as important as the rest of the band.
Malmo showed that and in every concert since they seem to be getting more applause than ever!"
The team led by Gareth Hand, Logan Thompson, Neil Edwards and Andrea Price is now getting used to being in the spotlight on a more regular basis but is also looking to fill a kit player to join them.
Get in touch
Prof Childs added: "It's a great team and we are looking for a player with the appetite to join a section with a band that continues to win plaudits — so get in touch and join the band and the applause!"
