Top 10 success for Welsh youngsters

The talented young Band Ysgol Bontnewydd ensemble has won the Urdd National Eisteddfod title for a record 10th time.

Band Ysgol Bontnewydd has won the band ensemble competition at the Urdd National Eisteddfod in Llandovery for a record 10th time.

The Urdd (Urdd Gobaith Cymru) is a national voluntary youth organisation that was established just over 100 years ago and now has around 55,000 members aged between 8 and 25.

Gonna Fly Now

The band under MD Dylan Williams competed against eight other finalists to become 2023 champion with a set that included 'Gonna Fly Now' from the Rocky films and 'Let Me Entertain You' made famous by Robbie Williams.

Earlier in the day the school's quintet ensemble also took the honours against 13 finalists playing 'The Final Countdown'.
