The Kirkintilloch Band is to celebrate the memory of one of the Scottish banding finest servants later this June.
The concert at Wynd Centre in Paisley (Friday 23rd June — 7.30pm) will honour the dedication and commitment to the banding movement of Willie Tennant, who started playing with the band in 1937 and whom took part in every contest performance (except one due to his National Service) with them until 1986
Hugely respected
Wille was a hugely respected figure, and in 2001 was presented with the Diploma of the Worshipful Company of Musicians in recognition of 64 years of teaching of young people.
A spokesperson for the band said: "It would be difficult to acknowledge the magnitude of his dedication to Scottish banding as a player, teacher, administrator, fund-raiser and supporter of not just Kirkintilloch and Kirkintilloch Kelvin bands, but all bands throughout Scotland.
There are literally hundreds of players who owe their love of brass banding to him. He was a remarkable man in so many ways, and we hope this concert will celebrate that in the best way possible."
