A tribute to the remarkable musical life of conductor Richard Evans will take place next month in Leyland — performed by the band that was so closely associate with him throughout his career.
Richard passed away in April 2022, with the current Leyland Band taking the opportunity mark the anniversary in a special concert in aid of the British Heart Foundation at St. Mary's Church, Leyland on Sunday June 4th (2.00pm).
Emotional tie
The event holds an emotional tie to the band's Chairperson Chris Doran as a response to the early deaths from heart conditions of two of his cousins. The concert will also mark the debt owed to their iconic former MD as well as raise funds for a cause that he was actively supporting.
The concert will feature composer Alan Fernie's own tribute to the march maestro entitled, 'Richard Evans — Thanks Boss!' while the audience will also hear John Doyle's arrangement of 'Faith of our Fathers' which expresses an appreciation of the giants of the brass band movement who are no longer present, but whose influence still resonates.
