The musical partnership between Irvine & Dreghorn Band and MD, Lewis Bettles has come to an affectionate end following the conductor's decision to move back south to explore new opportunities.

Title successes

Since his appointment in 2019 he led them to the Scottish Third Section title followed by the Second Section title earlier this year. They also claimed a brace of Borders Entertainment titles.

Lewis and partner Becky (who has been an excellent solo trombone with the band) will now head back to Sheffield to pursue new playing and conducting opportunities. Becky has graduated as a music teacher having completed her probationary period in Scotland.

Wonderful people

Band Chairperson Carrie Boax told 4BR: "We are sad to see Lewis and Becky leave us and thank them both for their time with the band. They are wonderful people and great friends to us all and we wish them every success for the future."

The duo recently made their farewell concert appearances where they were presented with numerous gifts to remind them of their time in Ayrshire and the hope they will return some day.
