Bendigo United Brass (BUB) recently took to the stage to perform a free concert in the township of Rochester in the Australian state of Victoria as the local community slowly recovers from the effects of the devasting floods that hit the area late last year.
It took place at Rochester Shire Hall, one of major community buildings severely hit by water damage, where a large and appreciative audience enjoyed the uplifting music making.
Bendigo United Brass are a group of friends from various bands across the state of Victoria who come together to perform on a social basis.
Strong connections
Band spokesperson Colin Welland told 4BR: "Many in our band have strong connections with Rochester and remain acutely aware of the ongoing challenges faced by the community. We had discussions with Rochester Community House volunteers who made it a reality.
The concert meant a great deal and we had players come from as far away as Geelong, Gippsland and Melbourne to be there and be a part of what was a fantastic afternoon of music and friendship."
Colin revealed that many individuals, families and businesses are still trying to return to some form of normality — and to their homes.

Community spirit
He added: "The concert was our response to try and help boost community spirit and to bring back live music making which has been absent for over 6 months. The response was amazing and we hope it has helped in some small way."
Colin said that the music ranged from the hymn tune 'Crimond' to 'Bohemian Rhapsody', the march 'Punchinello' to a set of fantastic solos.
