Well known conductor Dr Jonathan Corry and Neil Gallie, principal trombonist and section leader of the Ulster Orchestra, will be leading a special brass band reading session on classical music this weekend.
The event takes place at Belfast Temple Salvation Army on Sunday 20th November starting at 4.30pm (BT6 9ES). It is hoped players of Grade 6 standard will take the opportunity to come along.
Performances
Neil is regarded as one of the finest professional orchestral trombone players in Europe although included in his CV are spells that he thoroughly enjoyed playing with the likes of Grimethorpe, Black Dyke and Stavanger.
He will also perform 'Morceau Symphonique Op.88' by Guilmant and Cesar Franck's beautiful 'Panis Angelicus' arranged by Brian Bowen.
The band pieces will include 'War March of the Priests' (Mendelssohn), 'Themes from New World Symphony' (Dvorak), 'Air from Suite in D' (Bach) and 'Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral' (Wagner).
Community
Speaking about the initiative, Jonathan told 4BR: "The purpose of the themed read through session is to develop and nurture a sense of community within the brass band community, SA banding and professional players across the island of Ireland, so why hope as many players as possible come and join us."
