David Childs has taken the decision to step down as the Principal Conductor of Dallas Brass Band.
The partnership has flourished in recent years and in 2022 saw him lead the band to victory on its NABBA Championship First Section contesting debut.
In addition they have developed a reputation as innovative concert and repertoire providers, with events featuring the Dallas Symphony's Elmer Churampi, the University of North Texas Brass Band and most recently, an anniversary concert with guest soloist, Owen Farr.
Busy schedule
However, as he told 4BR, an increasingly busy professional schedule has led to the decision to step down: "I've had a great time working with everyone at Dallas Brass Band and it's been a pleasure to share the podium with resident conductors, Daniel Cook and more recently, Grant Jameson."
He added: "Together, we've made huge strides in a short space of time, but with a busy schedule for 2023, I feel the time is right to step aside, providing someone else with the opportunity to continue the development of this wonderful band."
Impact
Band President, founder and principal baritone, Andrew Wainwright, paid tribute to his impact.
He told 4BR: "We are sorry that David is unable to continue, but we thank him most sincerely for the tremendous work he has done. David, along with Daniel Cook and Grant Jameson, has taken the band to new levels, culminating in a magnificent performance at NABBA."
He added: "David has also contributed artistically in such a significant way, and we hope to work with him in the future as his schedule allows."

New appointment
Andrew confirmed that the full-time role will now be taken by Grant Jameson.
"Grant has proven himself as a conductor of real pedigree and having worked closely with David for some years now we anticipate a seamless transition and look forward to many exciting years to come with him at the helm."
David Childs' final appearance as Principal Conductor with the Dallas Brass Band will take place on December 4th at the annual Christmas with the Salvation Army concert at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, Dallas.
The following week, Grant Jameson will make his debut at its Christmas concert at Ventana Buckner.
