Trinity Girls Band recently held a special Tribute Concert in honour of the late Jack Withington, their celebrated former MD, who passed away earlier this year.
Following a successful playing career with Wingates Band, Jack conducted Trinity Girls from 1972 until 1983, achieving many contest and concert successes along the way — including no fewer than 13 first prizes.
Special concert
The special concert afforded players, past and present, an opportunity to remember Jack Withington's achievements.
The band were delighted that ex Wingates colleagues Gordon Clough and Trevor Halliwell, accepted the invitation to make their own personal tributes by conducting some of his favourite pieces — 'Aces High', 'The Lost Chord' and 'Hootenanny'.
Grandson
His son-in-law John Hinckley also conducted whilst entertaining the audience with special memories and personal stories about his family which continues to enjoy such a string banding connection.
Jack's grandson played second baritone for the event wearing his grandad's favourite cap too.
