A new march written by composer Jonathan Bates recently received its premiere at perhaps the most prestigious brass band venue in the world — Buckingham Palace.
The British Army Band Tidworth performed 'Salisbury Plain' on October 19th during the dismounting of the King's Guard at the Palace
Welcome addition
Jonathan was commissioned by LCpl Lucas Lockley to compose a march as a parting gift to British Army Band Tidworth, with the band stating that the work was "a welcome addition"to their repertoire."
Just a few days after the London premiere, Jonathan took to the stage a little further down the road at the Royal Albert Hall with Foden's Band as they successfully defended their National title.
Massive honour
The band will perform the music at events over the next year before it will be made available for all bands from September 2023.
Jonathan, who recently completed his 100th work said on his Facebook page that it as "a massive honour" to have the work premiered at Buckingham Palace by the band.
