The WFEL Fairey Band has announced the appointment of Kyle Lawson as their new principal cornet.

The New Zealander is no stranger to the UK having previously enjoyed a successful tenure as principal cornet at Brighouse & Rastrick.

Kyle completed a Bachelor in Musical Arts at the University of Salford in 2020, graduating with a first-class honours, before moving back to his homeland where he was the principal cornet of the New Zealand Army Band.

Delighted

Speaking about the appointment, WFEL Fairey Musical Director Adam Cooke said: "I'm obviously delighted that Kyle has joined us. As a top-class soloist and experienced principal player, he's the perfect appointment to lead the band into our forthcoming projects and contests."

In response, Kyle added: "I'm excited to return to the UK after spending the last two years with the New Zealand Army Band. I'm also thrilled to be joining the WFEL Fairey Band and I look forward to what the future holds."
