New MD at Littleport

The experienced Ian Johnson returns to Littleport Band to take up the baton.

Littleport Brass
The band has welcomed their new MD

Littleport Band has announced the appointment of Ian Johnson as their new Musical Director.

Ian grew up in Littleport and played cornet in the band before studying trumpet at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, and music at Cambridge University.

He was the youngest MD to conduct at the National Championship Finals at the Royal Albert Hall in 1983 when leading Hanwell Band. He went on to be a guest conductor with the likes of Grimethorpe, CWS Glasgow, Jaguar Cars and Matthews Norfolk Brass, in addition to teaching music at secondary level and more recently examining, arranging, and composing.

Talented and experienced

Littleport Chair Sue Peacock told 4BR: "We're delighted that we have attracted such a talented and experienced musician to return to the band which first gave him a love for brass music. We look forward to a long and successful partnership with Ian."

Ian's concert appearance will be at Littleport and East Cambs Academy on May 15th, when the band will welcome guest soloists from the school as well as Ely Youth Brass.
