There is some good news to report on what would have been the National Championship of Great Britain weekend at the Royal Albert Hall.
Congratulations go to Colin Gibbs, the President of Tewit Youth Band.
He has been awarded the Medallist of the OBE (British Empire Medal) in the Queen's Birthday Honours list for voluntary service to Young People in Harrogate North Yorkshire.
Unexpected
Speaking to a local online publication he said: "It was very unexpected but I am delighted. It all started when my son wanted to play a brass instrument, I started helping volunteering and working with the band.
When my son turned 18 he left and the band was going through a hard time and they asked me to take over. I knew I couldn't let it disappear so I got stuck in straight away.
As a president I am there to keep it going, we sing for our supper and are always performing to raise money."
Colin said the honour was also in recognition of the band and the "hard-working committee".
Congratulations
4BR adds its congratulations to Colin, and to those from the music and greater arts world who have also been recognised for their outstanding service, dedication and inspiration to a sector of the economy that is both essential as it is vital for our future well being and prosperity.
